Learning Spanish - So important for those living here.
« on: March 04, 2011, 09:02:55 am »
Having lived in Spain for several years and having gone for lessons with 3 different Spanish  tutors, I finally decided to give Paco Guerrero from the bar a try.

Now in my 20th week and am feeling very confident with the progression.

I find that Paco's teaching methods are excellent, one of his attributes or qualities is that he speaks very good english which goes a long way to understanding what the teacher is saying.

I honestly wish I had started with him from the beginning.

             Voy a Clases de Espa?ol

Se?or Paco teaches Spanish, to us who have a dare
He has a lot of patience; we never hear him swear
A Spanish sense of humour, to help us all along
His unique teaching method, surely can?t be wrong

It starts with all the easy stuff, like Spanish A-B-C
You?ll learn about your shopping and say ?Una Caf??
You?ll memorise the colours and what to call a rose
Advancing to the pronouns, like this and that and those.

You?ll learn that Spanish driver, is called a Conductor
Seems to me its back to front, yet there are some more
But this is what makes learning, a very worthwhile quest
Now when I hear the locals speak, I put it to the test.

The Spanish are so friendly, when they understand
Just what we are saying, in the language of their land
It helps to spread nice feelings between our nationals
And who knows,
                         Some day hence,
We may all be good pals.

Very nice poem!

It should be "un caf?", but never mind!

Gender is always important, as any lady who has ever mixed up her masculine and feminine whilst ordering a chicken at the butchers can tell you.......

(if you don't get it, ask Paco for the pollo joke!)

When i first started driving trucks in Spain many years ago we used to go in Bar in Irun quite regularly & i always had a Pollo Bocadillo .
One day a " Friend " asked me if i had tried the turkey because it was alot nicer then Chicken & i said no because i didnt know the Spanish word for Turkey !
He told me it was Poya !  which sounded about right, so i went to the bar & asked for a Poya Bocadillo .......
They didnt let me back in to drink there for 2 weeks ! ;D

( if you dont know what Poya is ask Paco ;D )

My spanish dictionary say a 'Poyo' is a stone bench so using the gender rule, your 'Poya' must be a female stone bench and asking for a female stone bench sandwich probably would get you thrown out...!!!

Now that you have the correct spelling, I see in my dictionary that 'Polla' has a double meaning.

1/ Young hen

2/ tabu: organo sexual.

and a polla de agua is a Moorhen.
